Inish Pharmacy Fort Dunree 5k Challenge in Memory of  Gerard Doyle

31st March 2019

We are excited and delighted to bring to you Ireland's most scenic 5K, the Inish Pharmacy Fort Dunree 5K Challenge in Memory of our beloved friend and club mate Gerard Doyle.

Known to us as Ger, he was a big part of our Club and was involved not only as an athlete but also a coach to our Juvenile members and it brought him happiness to see them fulfill their potential. Ger was also a hard-working Committee member and worked tirelessly for the benefit of Inishowen AC.

For the first time ever Fort Dunree will host an athletic event such as this and you will be running around one of the most historic forts in the Country .

Located 10 Kilometers from Buncrana, Fort Dunree is set at the mouth of Lough Swilly in an area of stunning natural Beauty. It was built during the Napoleonic War(1803 -1815) and remained under British sovereignty until 3rd October 1938. The fort is now a Military Museum and one of the top tourist attractions on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The course will take you through road and off road terrain and the famous 78 step climb to the summit where spectacular views await.

The Fort Dunree 5K challenge will be raising funds in aid of the Donegal Hospice.

Pauric Mc Kinney won the M50 National Half Marathon title in Dublin on Sunday the 14th of August 2018 with a quick 1 Hour 17 minutes on a challenging course with two tough hills at 7 miles and 10 miles. Philip Callaghan finished in 1 hour 25 minutes and Finbarr Gallagher in 1 hour 33 minutes.
